David Paul's music transports nearly every listener who comes to hear it.  His tone carries depth and strength, even as gentle melodies soar from his violin among the ethers. 

He began violin studies at age 8 and piano lessons at age 6, growing up in a household where music lessons were considered as important as reading, writing and mathematics.

After completing a Bachelor's Degree in violin performance from St. Olaf College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors, and a Master's Degree in orchestral studies from Rice University as a member of an Honors String Quartet and teaching assistant to Ruben Gonzalez, (Concertmaster Chicago Symphony 1986-1996) Mr. Paul began his professional music life as a journeyman first violinist in the Jacksonville Symphony where he played full time for 7 years. 

The stress of performing in 180 plus concerts each season motivated his search for a practical antidote, and Mr. Paul embraced the study of Tai' Chi Gung with his teacher Rasaji, shortly after arriving in Jacksonville.  Within the practice of this profound system of health and longevity began a transformation from a note reading musician to a student of improvisation and composition, a move toward music that touched the heart as much as it impressed the intellect.  

He has recently completed work on two new CDs.  "Window to Infinity" and "Sunrise". Many of the selections are inspired by things that happened during early morning walks in nature which are a part of his daily Tai' Chi Gung training. 

Mr. Paul's efforts to communicate the power and presence of music now go beyond just his performances.  He coaches aspiring performing artists with a seminar to help them connect to the Chi while they work, and learn how to build powerful successful careers by incorporating the principles of Tai' Chi Gung to their art.

He pioneers an effort to help aspiring musicians learn to play their own music from the very beginning of their studies.  They can do this playing by ear if they choose, or incorporate it with their classical or jazz studies. The program is called Making Music Fun and Easy Improvising.  

He also developed a program for children ages 3-7.  Mr. Paul dedicates a part of every week to help young children fall in love with music early and learn how to sing. This program is now being brought to a wide audience of pre-school and elementary school age children through concerts, a book and CD.  The impact of the program goes beyond a single performance because it provides for materials and teacher training so the arts can be integrated easily into the daily lives of the children in their schools.

"The doorway to music that is truly universal begins with the intent of the artist.  It does not take the technique of a virtuoso to play music that touches the soul and brings joy to the heart of the player and his or her audience.  Fluency while playing, well grounded rhythm, awareness of the intent of the music and playing beyond self conscious doubts... these things can be done at any age.  For many people, just 2-4 years of moderate consistent effort can give them the pleasure of being able to sit down and play their own music any time they feel like it.  Once this level of mastery is achieved, it becomes quickly apparent that music itself is a profound gift, to hear and also to play."
